Your First Period Is The Beginning. Then What?
*Puberty includes learning the menstrual cycle
The fifth grade puberty school workshop is coming up. The school will explain to you what they will be teaching, and you are grateful that you don’t need to do the teaching.
I completely understand the relief that you might feel, but that brief workshop is really just an introduction for her to a topic that is going to be a big part of her life for a very long time. Just think about all that is going to happen very quickly. One day, she will start her first period. After that day, she will need to get organized around the schedule of her menstrual cycle. It’s almost summer. What will it mean to go swimming while she is having her period? Life will not seem quite as carefree as it was just a few months before.
Learning about her menstrual cycle is the most important piece of information for your daughter to know before her period starts. The young girl that understands this is going to be the confident one that feels she has some control over her body because she can predict what is going to happen next.
I have prepared some great resources that include a simple menstrual cycle illustration that your daughter can use to learn about her menstrual cycle. It is not quite as difficult as it might seem, and I think your daughter will find what I have prepared to be very helpful. With this knowledge, she can put a period app on her phone and never wonder what to expect tomorrow or even next week.
