You Said No to the School’s Puberty Talk. What Now?
Parents have their own expectations for what they want their child to learn about puberty and later about sexual maturity. It’s important you research what your school is going to teach your child to make sure it’s compatible with your wishes.
If you decide you don’t want your child to follow the school’s curriculum for this important content, you will need a plan that you can implement and feel good about.
I am here to partner with you and provide the important biological content for the changes your child is going to experience during puberty, and help you with simple and fun ways to talk to them about the changes.
I’m striving to change the way this content is taught to our kids in two different ways.
- Provide a basic science understanding of the body first so your child is confident and informed about their body and the changes that are happening each year. This makes a big difference when they hear information from outside your home like on the internet, from friends, and from the media that is not correct or poorly explained.
- Rather than one “big talk,” I suggest brief 7-Minute Chats that begin now and continue into the mid-teen years.
To help you implement this new way of teaching your child, I have written a Girl Book Series and a Boy Book Series. Each series contains five age-appropriate level books. These books can be the curriculum your use for your child from the time they are 5 years old until they are 15+ years old. In addition, I have written 7-Minute Chats for you that accompany each book. There are several with each book and each one reinforces a small piece of important information found in the book. You can find the 7-Minute Chats on my website.
Together, we can create a solid curriculum for your child as they mature into and through puberty. Let’s make sure when they leave your home they are informed as they face the new challenges that come with being a young adult.
