If daughter is about 5-7 years old, I want to help you as you begin to teach her about her body.
This is such a precious age. These little girls are so inquisitive and love being with their parents. While she is so young, now is the time to start having fun, brief chats with her about her about basic girl anatomy. She is going to be fascinated, and probably not embarrassed with the information.
To help you, I’ve written a book for your daughter called “I’m a Girl, Special Me.” It is a storybook about three little girls, and one of their mothers is going to have a baby. Dr. M helps explain some simple concepts to the girls about where the baby is growing and how the mom will know if the baby is going to be a boy or a girl. It is a fun story with just the right amount of anatomy that is beautifully illustrated in the book. A mom recently told me that when she gave the book to her daughter, there was immediate joy on her face. She realized this was a special book for her to share with her mom.

It will be a great time together as the two of you read the book, but in addition, I have created a series of 7-Minute Chats that provide a guide through a few simple questions to make sure she has understood the important points of the book. You can find the 7-Minute Chats on my website.
This is the beginning. I would love to partner with you as we prepare your daughter for the early days of puberty in just a couple years. We can celebrate puberty if take it step-by-step and make it fun and special.
