Girls of All Ages Need to Know About Hormones
No matter what your age, if you are a woman, hormones are probably affecting your life in some way. When we were young, around 8-10 years old, hormones began ramping up to steer our body into puberty. Our memory of being a preteen is dominated by breast buds and using deodorant for the first time. Then, of course, there was our first period, also orchestrated by hormones.
This obvious transition signaled that our reproductive years were beginning.
Later, a fascinating mixture of hormones nurtured our pregnancies and changed our body into a baby-making machine. If you are now in your 40s, you are probably entering perimenopause. Diminishing hormones are slowly bringing your reproductive years to an end and some confusion to your life.
So why am I talking about the hormone pathway of life? I want to emphasize that girls of all ages benefit from understanding how hormones affect their body. Rather than be at the mercy of the next hormonal cycle, there is some predictability that can be learned. My way of sharing this predictability is through books that I write. I’m a Girl, Hormones! is focused on the hormone cycles of puberty and what makes them happen.
Even if she has already started her period…
Although the cover of the book says that it is appropriate for girls 10+, that does not mean it is only recommended for young girls. Even if your daughter has already started having her period, this book will teach her what she needs to know about hormones that will be useful throughout her life. You will probably not find this information anywhere else so I encourage moms to consider giving this book to their daughters who have already started their period so they don’t miss out on this important information.
I have been so pleased with the response from girls of all ages to my hormone book! But also exciting are the emails from young girls explaining that they used my book to teach their friends.
I loved this recent comment I received from a mom!
My daughter has read and re-read it (I’m a Girl, Hormones) many times since her birthday. I have seen her going through it with her friends as well. I’ve read through it and think it is a wonderful addition to the talks we have. I especially like the artwork and the calendar, they are perfect compliments to the text. I look forward to recommending the book 🙂

I couldn’t be happier at this sign that my mission is being fulfilled as I advocate for more thorough puberty education for our girls!
