Wet Dreams – Do All Boys Have Them?
If you have a son in his early teens, it is likely that he has experienced a wet dream, or also called a nocturnal emission.
A wet dream is a result of maturing boy reproductive anatomy. There are two types of glands in his pelvic cavity that produce a fluid to nourish sperm. One type of gland is the seminal vesicle. There are actually two of them. The other is the prostate gland. The fluid from these glands mix together with sperm and produce a new fluid called semen. Semen is released from the penis during an ejaculation.

A wet dream is an ejaculation that happens while the boy is sleeping. He wakes up and discovers wet pajamas. Needless to say, this is disturbing to him. He is not sure if the wetness is due to urine or what it is.
When your son has a wet dream, it is a normal event for someone his age. It would certainly be helpful to him to know that what he has experienced is normal. It would be even better if the possibility of a wet dream happening to him is explained before it happens.
There are certainly unexpected events that our daughters have during puberty, but our sons also have challenges they will encounter. Wet dreams are one of the more disturbing for them. It would be a good idea to have a talk with him about this possibility and put an extra set of bed linens in his room so he can be discrete about the event if it happens.
