This is the question that is asked as soon as a baby is born. The answer is one that describes the biological sex of the baby. There are many different ideas being discussed today about what is a boy or girl. But, it all begins with the biological sex that is defined by the chromosomes involved.

Not every parent feels comfortable going into detail about biological sex. The drawing in this post makes it very simple. The biological sex of the baby is determined by the male and this happens when the sperm joins the egg. 

After they understand these simple facts, they will feel informed as they join conversations that explore the different ideas  around this topic.

I think this is important information that all adolescents need to learn.
