Does Your Daughter Know What To Expect When Her First Period Happens?
*Preparing a bag for her first period
*Easy way to make her feel more secure
*Mother-daughter sharing opportunity
Preparing your daughter for her first period is a highly emotional experience for her and for you. Suddenly it feels like there is so much to explain to her. She may appear unusually insecure, which is not what you want for her. You remember when you started your period and how you felt.
For mom, realizing your daughter could have her first period soon is both expected and a little apprehensive. Although she still seems like a child to you, her body is letting both of you know that she is growing up.
For your daughter, this is a time of insecurity because she doesn’t know what to expect. She has likely heard inaccurate stories from friends and feels embarrassed to ask very many questions, even of you. Just to complicate this significant moment in her life, her hormones are trying to get into a pattern, but are still a little confused. This means up and down emotions on her part.
There is one simple step that can truly make a difference for both of you. Let’s get practical.
Suggestion
Put together a little bag that contains a pad, period underwear, and a feminine wipe. You might need more than one little bag so she can put one in her backpack and one in a sports bag or purse. If she carries this little bag with her everywhere she goes, she will always be prepared. What a relief! This seems so basic and yet what a great way to let her know you understand her concerns and want to help. I have other suggestions of simple ways you can reduce her anxiety as that first period approaches.

Another question she will have is how will she know when her periods are going to happen each month? After doing some research, I have found a few period apps that can simplify the “when” question.
